In 1998, the City of Chicago Mayor's Office of Substance Abuse Policy received a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's Center of Substance Treatment. The funding was used to create Recovery Communities United, Inc. as an independent 501(C)(3) not-for-profit corporation. Immediately after forming, RCU affiliated with the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, this nation’s longest standing health agency aimed at treating the disease of addiction to alcohol and other drugs.
Today, NCADD-Illinois continues to operate as a not-for-profit corporation, providing Education, Information, Help, and Hope for individuals, families, and communities impacted by the disease of addiction to alcohol and other drugs.
NCADD-Illinois offers a variety of services aimed at reducing substance abuse among youth and adults including: Intervention services; Drug Free Community Programs; Drug Testing; and Recovery Management.
